Creating Paths to College
Summerbridge Cambridge students are diverse, motivated, fun loving and working hard to pursue their educational goals. Summerbridge Cambridge looks for students who want to go to college and need our resources to get there. 87% of our students are of color, 67% qualify for free or reduced-price school lunch and almost half speak languages besides English at home.
Summerbridge Cambridge serves about 100 students annually: approximately 40 sixth graders, 40 seventh graders, and 20 eighth graders. Students and families commit to attending the program for at least two years, year-round, and the third year is optional. Students begin the program during the summer before their sixth grade year. Summerbridge Cambridge is not a summer camp; it’s a long-term, two-way investment in a student’s future.
It’s also a lot of fun! Summerbridge Cambridge students enjoy hands-on classes, a zany, positive program culture, special activities and trips, and close relationships with their young teachers. The program is 100% tuition free and features a three-to-one student to teacher ratio.
Through this mixture of academic rigor and personal support, Summerbridge Cambridge prepares our students to thrive in high school and attend college. Most of our students stay in the Cambridge Public Schools straight through college, enriching the local school system with their talent and motivation.
