Winterfest 2006

Thanks for sharing in this magical night. Your presence helped contribute to a successful, fun and spirited evening celebrating Summerbridge Cambridge.

Guests, students, teachers, staff, SBC parents and board members mingled with one and another at festively decorated Cambridge Boat Club on the Charles River.

Front row Celtics tickets and a gift certificate from Formaggio Kitchen were just some of the fabulous raffle prizes up for grabs at Winterfest! Congratulations to Cassie Brown, Meredith Shachoy, Randy Matory, RoAnn Costin and Jeanne Frey who all walked away winners!

Full-time staff members Andy Shin and Edwin Johnson dazzled Winterfest guests with the official SBC Rap.

Summerbridge Board Members Karen Shakman and Charlotte Wagner engaged in spirited SBC conversation.

Winterfest guests enjoyed an a cappella performance by vocal band Downtown Crossing, including SBC’s very own Edwin Johnson and Ben Jackson.

SBC 7th grader Sade Udoh-Warren and her younger sister Imoh Udoh-Warren helped former Summerbridge teacher Kim Weber sell raffle tickets. Every guest who purchased at ticket received a free blinking star pin!

Spoken Word for SBC

Step into Summerbridge on any given weekday
And the positive energy warms your body, like heat rays
Like Talib Kweli, we rock the beautiful struggle
As we pool our determination every day at staff huddle
If the world out there’s Gilead, SBC is the balm –
Though we’ll never be listed on expedia.com
And if the world gets you down with mediocrity and trifeness
Then join us – but treat this with care, ‘cuz it’s priceless
These are the front lines, where ideals meet reality
Where we showcase the power of positive mentality
Where we reach out to our younger brothers when they need us
And invest in our sisters so tomorrow they’ll lead us
Like Kerry on a swiftboat, we don’t leave folks behind
And despite choppy waters, we broaden kids’ minds
When voices in our heads say, “Stop struggling, let things slide” –
What we know is, that doubt and pain will subside
And in the evenings, when we know a new meaning of “tired,”
That’s when we dig DEEPEST, to keep ourselves inspired
Remembering the ideal of an SBC community –
Envisioning a world that’s RIPE with opportunity –
Where circumstance in life isn’t correlated to knowledge,
And every kid in Cambridge can walk the path to college.
There’s plenty of darkness, but we have the flames of our lighters
There’s plenty to do, but we’re pulling an all-nighter
There’s a long journey before us, but we carry little baggage
And together, our hands can reach higher, like the adage.
